The Complete Declination Analysis Program

The MAGDEC program was developed to provide land surveyors with an easily used tool to deal with magnetic bearings and the effects of the year to year changes in magnetic declination.

The program uses the U.S. Historical Data base for declination published by the U.S. Geological Survey and the world magnetic field model for 1995 to the year 2005. The data base includes a linear extrapolation to 2010.

The historical data base on magnetic storms is also accessible with the program to evaluate the reliability of compass readings taken on a specific day and hour between 1862 and 1992.

The program will provide the declination of magnetic North for any location and any year encompassed by the data base. It will also provide a plot of declination vs. years, latitude or longitude and will transform bearings from any THEN year to any NOW year.
